LYOTO MACHIDA RETAINS THE TITLE
Lyoto Machida is still the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. He won via "Unanimous Decision." All three judges scored 48-47. There's no gruesome blood even though his lips are cut and his legs are dead. And even though he received devastating leg kicks and hard body kicks from Rua, that was not enough to destroy the wall of the dragon.
A lot of people are booing the decision. Joe Rogan interviewed him after the fight and asked if he agreed with the judges decision. Lyoto did not say directly that he agrees with the judges but he just say that if it is how the 3 judges saw it, then that will be irrevocable.
"I'll try again..."Lyoto Machida
From his words, he seems to know his true condition in his match against Mauricio Rua. He seems to know that Rua overpowered him tonight. He did not boast that he won because he is good but he told the crowd that he'll be better next time.
Rua almost thought that he will win in this match. He is so disappointed about the decision. He almost had it but what did he miss?

UFC 104 PLAY BY PLAY / ROUND BY ROUND RECAP
ROUND 1
Lyoto does his karate style while Shogun does his Muay Thai style. Lyoto opens the round with a clinch and several knees to the body. At 3:42, Shogun goes for a takedown but failed to continue because of Lyoto's great defense. At 3:10 Lyoto lands a high kick. Shogun tries another takedown at 2:40 but failed to execute it. At 2:10, Shogun attempted a head kick but Lyoto slips away. At 1:45, Shogun lands a high kick on the and at 0:59 Lyoto received a hard leg kick from him. Lyoto lands a hard knee to the body but followed by a punch from Shogun. Shogun tries another takedown but still failed to execute it. At 0:17, Lyoto received a left kick from Shogun.
So far, both players are doing great but Rua seems to be a lot aggressive in this round.
ROUND 2
Shogun is throing some leg kicks this round. At 4:05, Lyoto throws a leg kick and at 3:13 cracks Rua with a big knee. At 3:11, Shogun goes for a takedown but Lyoto is good in doing takedown defense. At 2:37, Lyoto lands another leg kick but at 2:11 Rua gives hims a hard body kick. Shogun always does this so at this moment you will see Lyoto's left side of his body is now reddish and seems to be a little bit swollen. Lyoto throws a body kick at 2:00 and a low kick at 1:97. But Shogun attacks him from 0:30 - 0:10. Nice knee and leg from Shogun to end this round.
I can say that this fight will last 'till the end of fifth round. Both fighters are very careful in their moves and if they try to attack they manage to slow down and get back on defense. Lyoto seems very tired at the end of this round. Is it going to be unanimous decision?...
Round 3
At the start of Round 3, both of their legs crossed as they try to throw leg kicks. Lyoto throws a light left punch but it was followed by a right punch from Shogun which slips on Lyoto's left arms. Lyoto have escaped on Shogun's second punch and have stopped the attack. At 4:35, Lyoto throws a right punch on Shogun's face and then followed by a left low kick. Their legs crossed again as both of them throws leg kicks at the same time. At 4:14, he tries another right leg kick but missed. At 4:02, Shogun throws a left body kick followed by a right body kick. Nice counter from Shogun at 2:51. Shogun again with a clinch at 2:38, followed by a good elbow and Lyoto pushed him away. Nice leg kick coming from Shogun at 2:17. Their legs crossed once again at 2:00 and at 1:52 Shogun throws another beautiful body kick. At 1:03, Lyoto received another leg kick but he then throws an inside leg kick and a knee to Shogun. At 28 seconds remaining, Lyoto lands some strikes on Shogun making this moment the climax of this round. Shogun managed to stopped the attack.
After the third round, the fight become close. Lyoto ends up this round with an impressive performance.
Round 4
At the start of Round 4, both fighters were looking for a good shot. The fight slows down compare to the first three rounds. Both tried leg kicks at the start of this round. At 3:15, Shogun throws a right body kick. At 3:08, Lyoto lands a nice high kick. Shogun raises his right arm showing that he's not stunned by the kick. At 3:00, Lyoto slipped as he tries to throw a leg kick to Shogun. Shogun take advantage of it and he tries another takedown. Lyoto's immediately springs to his feet and stops him from continuing the take down. It was a good quick defense on the side of Lyoto. Shogun, on the other hand, think wisely here. He knows that he should let him go because he's not in a good position and Lyoto is ready any minute if he'll try to bring him down. Shogun throws another leg kick at 2:18 but fowllowed by a good combination from Lyoto. Shogun throws another leg kick to Lyoto at 1:45 and at 1:05 he throws a knee to the body of Lyoto and another follow up kick at 0:58. Shogun does the same thing at 0:45. Nothing follows 'till the end of the round.
"Don't get too rush..Don't get too much..." Lyoto's camp said while on a break. On the other hand, Shogun's trainer told him that Lyoto's legs are dead so this is now his chance to dominate the last round. I think Shogun needs to impress the crowd and the judges on this last round. A good takedown will be great. And if he can just knock out Lyoto, that is a 100% assurance that he deserves the Light Heavyweight Championship belt.
Round 5
Going in Round no. 5, I was expecting that both fighters will give their best shots. I was expecting to see a series of strikes. But their movements are still the same. Shogun opens the round again with a leg kick at 4:52 and he does the same thing at 4:33. At 4:12, he lands a beautiful body kick and it seems that Lyoto was hurt but Lyoto immediately pushed him away and stop him from attacking. At 4:01 and 3:38, Shogun throws another right leg kick. At 3:31, Lyoto does a nice body kick but it got stuck when Shogun counter it. Nice knees from Lyoto at 2:45. At 2:02, Shogun throws another body kick and a hard punch at 1:39. Lyoto looks very tired and Shogun is still aggressive in the last minute of this final round. At 0:51, Lyoto lands a light high kick and at 0:07, Shogun gave him a good left hand, a final shot in this round. As the bell rings, both fighters raised their hands.
The fight has ended and Lyoto retains the title. But I know he's not considering it as one of his sweet victories. Shogun has the guts of being the new champion and he was not able to knock him out. Many people doesn't like the decision but this isn't one of the fights we've seen wherein a challenger is aggressive but still fail to dethrone the champion. Lyoto still showed some sparks in every round. Even though it looks like that he doesn't really dominate the three rounds, Shogun was not able to take him down. No bloody mess, no bad cuts (yes there is cut on his lips but it does not look bad), and he failed many times in bringing Lyoto down. Shogun is strong and aggressive but he should have attack Lyoto in a series of punches or kicks. He kicks him hard but if you'll review the fight videos, he just take his shots one at a time. If he goes on for attack, Lyoto always managed to stop it and slows down the rhythm of the fight. Maybe he should win because he scores more than Lyoto but Lyoto didn't just let him dominate the whole rounds. You can still see him focusing in their fight in every round.
Come on folks! In order to get rid of unfairness in judges scoring system, a fighter should knock out their opponent. That's a sure win!
